A new career

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I am looking for a new career. I have no more classes to teach, nobody is expecting me to show up. My feelings about this new situation are ambiguous: although it is great to discover new possibilties, it is extremely scary too. What if I fail? What if can’t make any money? It is my responsibility to see new options. I’ve got plenty of time and ideas, I only need to get started. But how?

Love for movement

My love for movement began when I was a student. I would go to the university’s sports centre daily and enjoy various aerobics classes. It was quite an experience to discover that movement could feel natural to me. When the music started playing, my body would start to move all by itself. It felt great to be active without worrying about failing or not being good enough. I remember fantasizing how great it would be make a career out of movement. To get up in the morning, do some sports, some studying and end the day by doing more sports.

Teaching movement

It was a dream come true when I started working as an aerobics teacher. I was exercising and getting paid for it! It wasn’t possible to do this kind of work fulltime, so I became a physical therapist as well. By guiding people to move more efficiently and without pain, I was involved in movement fulltime. Movement has intruiged me for the last twenty-five years. During this period I registered for different training courses and I have studied a lot. My own physical training was always at the service of my students and patients.

Experiencing movement

Right now I am free to focus on myself, to feel my body during workouts. It will be the starting point for my new career. It is my deepest conviction that feeling good in my body is a guarantee for great things to happen. When I take care of myself, I will be able to see new possiblities. It has nothing to do with building a perfect body. It is about being at home in my body, being at ease with myself. For the next months, I will practise the Alexander Technique daily, I will do Pilates, strength training and cardio training. I will practise with ease. My body will relax, my mind will relax, new opportunities will come my way. In the meantime, I will put some Mind your Movement classes on my website to remind myself of the joys of teaching.
